2. ANNIE2 JATER (WILLIAM1)2,3,4 was born Abt. 1845 in Woodham,
Surrey5. She married
GEORGE ZECHARIAH ALEXANDER6, son of GEORGE ALEXANDER and LOUISA ROBINSON. He was born 27 April 1842 in Staines, London7.
Notes for ANNIE JATER:
Annie Jater is listed as
Frederick's mother on his birth certificate, living in Chertsey in 1870. The family are also found in the 1881 census
living in Chertsey. Annie was shown as
being born in Woodham in 1845. Upon
searching the IGI, the only Annie Jater born in Surrey between 1825-1865 was
Ann Jater, christened on 30 Nov 1845 at St Paul's in Addlestone. Her siblings were christened in Addlestone
and Byfleet. I have presumed this Ann
Jater in the IGI is Frederick's mother.

3. FREDERICK3 ALEXANDER
(ANNIE2 JATER, WILLIAM1)15,16 was born 21 December 1870 in
Pyrcroft, Chertsey, Surrey17,18, and died 5 October 1945 in
Ottershaw, Surrey19.
He married FANNY JATER,
daughter of FREDERICK JATER and ELLEN ?. She was
born Abt. 1869 in Byfleet, Surrey20, and died 11 April 194421.
Notes for FREDERICK ALEXANDER:
Reputedly born in Scotland, and
served 20 years as Pipe Major in 42nd Royal Highlanders (Black Watch). Frederick was often seen playing the
bagpipes. This cannot be substantiated,
and seems likely that it is incorrect.
His family were members of the
Salvation Army.
Frederick moved his family to
the Red House, Spratts Lane, Ottershaw, some time between 1901 and 1907. He then farmed the land known as Spratts
Farm on the east side of Spratts Lane and the land surrounding the Red House on
the west side. The land and house was
leased from Pelhams (?). The Red House
was demolished about 10 years ago and the land redeveloped.
Sometime before 1939 his son
Fred took over Spratts Farm, and Frederick Snr continued to farm the land
around the Red House until his death in 1945.
The first SOS transmitted on
the radio after the end of the Second World War was asking for Ernest Alexander
(Frederick's brother) to get in touch with the family as Frederick had
died. There is no trace of an Ernest
and this may not be remembered correctly.
Research Notes:
Frederick and Fanny were living
in Woking at the time of Lily's birth in 1901.
The census records for the same year show Frederick and Fanny still in
Woking. The Census (TBC when 1901
Census back online) shows Frederick was born in Chertsey. The only Frederick Alexander born Chertsey
in 1869-1871 was the son of George and Annie Alexander. This is also confirmed by searching the 1881
Census between 1865-1875 for Fredericks born in Chertsey.

and died 25 February 1991 in Ottershaw, Surrey.
Notes for LEONARD ALEXANDER:
Len was born at the Red House,
Spratts Lane, Ottershaw on 14 January 1909 (although his death certificate held
by John Alexander gives his year of birth as 1908).
As a young man he had various
jobs - he was a chauffeur for a family in St George's Hills Weybridge, and
lived in a flat about their garage.
Whilst living in Hounslow he worked as a veterinary surgeon's assistant.
He met and married Constance
Ellen Webber whilst living in digs in Hounslow, Middlesex.
Len then moved his family to
the Red House, Spratts Lane, Ottershaw just before the start of the Second
World War, to live with his parents, Frederick and Fanny.
During the war Len was a
part-time policeman and a member of the ARP (air raid precaution).
Len farmed the land surrounding
the Red House, growing cornflowers and roses, from 1945 til the early
1960s.
Len then worked for the
Co-Operative Society in Addlestone, Surrey as a mechanic and retired at the age
